MISSION

Structure every call summary around the Sandler sales methodology

A methodology only works if every rep uses it the same way. This mission writes each call summary in Sandler's stages, so every deal reads the same and gaps show up early.

What it does

This mission maps every sales call to the Sandler sales methodology. After the call, ChatGPT or Claude reads it through Fathom and writes the summary in Sandler's stages: bonding and rapport, the up-front contract, pain, budget, decision, fulfillment and post-sell. Any stage the call didn't cover gets flagged, so the rep knows what to cover next time.

Fathom also partners with Sandler and Winning by Design's SPICED for summaries built around each framework. Teams on SPICED can swap the stages for Situation, Pain, Impact, Critical Event and Decision.

Who it's for

Sales teams trained on Sandler or SPICED, and the managers and RevOps leads who want every deal written up the same way.

The flight plan

Run it after each sales call, then paste the summary into the deal or map the stages to CRM fields.

  1. Connect Fathom to ChatGPT or Claude, along with HubSpot or Salesforce if you want the summary saved to the deal.
  2. Run the starter prompt on a recent call.
  3. Check which stages were covered and which were flagged as missing.
  4. Map the stages you care about most, like pain, budget and decision, to fields on the deal.
  5. Review missing stages in your weekly pipeline meeting.

RULES

Use the framework's stage names exactly.

Quote the buyer for pain, budget and decision.

Flag a stage as missing rather than guess.

Keep each stage to two or three lines.

End with the next step that moves the deal to the next stage.

What good looks like

A good summary shows where the deal stands in Sandler terms and what's missing. A mediocre one is a general recap with the stage names added.

GOOD

"Pain: 'we lose two reps a quarter to burnout from admin.' Budget: not discussed (missing). Decision: CRO signs, wants a pilot first. Up-front contract: agreed to a 30-minute follow-up with the CRO next Tuesday."

MEDIOCRE

"Pain: they have some challenges. Budget: TBD. Decision: they'll decide soon."

STARTER PROMPT

⧉ Copy

Use Fathom to get my most recent sales call. Write the summary in the stages of the Sandler Selling System: bonding and rapport, up-front contract, pain, budget, decision, fulfillment and post-sell.

Quote the buyer for pain, budget and decision. If a stage wasn't covered, mark it as missing. End with the next step that moves the deal forward. (For SPICED, use Situation, Pain, Impact, Critical Event and Decision instead.)

FAQs

Questions? We’ve got you covered.

How do I apply the Sandler sales methodology to my call notes?

Write each summary in Sandler's stages: bonding and rapport, up-front contract, pain, budget, decision, fulfillment and post-sell. Connecting Fathom to ChatGPT or Claude lets AI do this after every call and flag the stages that were skipped.

Does this work for SPICED or other methodologies?

Yes. Swap the stage names in the prompt for SPICED (Situation, Pain, Impact, Critical Event, Decision) or your own framework.

Which Fathom plan do I need to run this skill in ChatGPT or Claude?

Any Fathom plan, including Free. The skill reads your calls through Fathom's MCP integration with ChatGPT and Claude, which is on every plan.

What is the Sandler sales methodology?

The Sandler Selling System is a sales methodology built around qualifying buyers early. Reps set an up-front contract, uncover pain, budget and decision process, and only then present a solution.
